Reading Stones: The Story behind the Stories.

Why did we create Reading Stones Publishing?

Mum and I started this company because she is an author and found that publishing through vanity publishers was both expensive and frustrating. Even after they got the job, they were always asking for more money - that, coupled with a minimum order of 250 books, and only receiving 10% commission, found her looking for a better way.

At Reading Stones, we decided that publishing is about getting the story out there - we do charge, but only for expenses that authors will have anyway. Editing, proofreading, formatting, cover design, upload to the printers, conversion to eBook, and printing; We only charge for the services you need e.g. if your book has been thoroughly edited and proofread, and the cover design is complete, we would not charge for these services. We use IngramSpark for printing and promotion (at an extra cost set by them) although we are looking into creating our own catalogue as we now have several books under our belt - so to speak.

As IngramSpark is a print-on-demand service, there is no minimum number of books to purchase. We usually offer a 90% commission to authors, because we believe that they deserve to get paid for their hard work.

Our company focusses on family-friendly works - Christian or non-Christian - nothing vulgar, erotic, or with excessive use of adult language. So far we have published several Christian novels, devotionals, a poetry book, and a workbook. We are also working on a non-fiction book, an autobiography, and a recipe book. While most of these have a Christian theme, it is not necessary to produce a Christian work in order to publish with us.

We are always looking to expand our repertoire, and be challenged with new ideas. We would love to hear from aspiring authors.

We are still a baby company, so we charge less than many others, and we are not about making a huge profit, but about affordable publishing for authors of all kinds.
