Life in Australia during the 1930's has become hard. Salome, a widow who supports her family as a wet-nurse, is struggling to keep the bankers away from repossessing her ramshackle home.  When she is asked to care for the Galloway baby after her mother dies in childbirth, Sal sees an opportunity to stabilise her uncertain life. Will Sal be able to convince the grief-stricken father to allow her to implement her plan in a ragged edge situation where nothing is clean-cut or tidy, and there is no peace?
